rocks as a curation tool with a little bit of blogging/website thrown in. also fun!

@zbutcher: Somehow I stumbled on Shareist and I have to say it’s very impressive. Honestly, I’m much better at curating than I will ever be at blogging. But that’s okay since they are two different things to a large extent. Blogging is great platform to express one’s self by writing insightful articles and sharing their point of view. Curation is… well a whole separate beast. I’m not going to write about what it is or isn’t, there are many excellent reads covering that concept already. Anyway, it turns out that I love to curate, it’s just a part of my nature. So it’s nice to see some powerful new web tools (Shareist and the like) that allow me to do my thang.Shareist_www

Another excellent site is Much like Shareist, it is simple, unobtrusive and has a bookmarklet to keep you moving as fast as possible. As I explore the various tools of curating, collecting, sharing, displaying the information effectively and allowing others to curate along with me are all key. Both sites allow you to do this, however, Shareist has an edge compared to other tools. It has a beautiful 3 column layout for elegantly displaying your shares . For me this was the standout feature that separated it from other curating options. Shareist is currently in private beta but I was fortunate to be one of the lucky ones to receive an invitation. The timing couldn’t have been better… ’cause as fate would have it, Apple recently released a new version of it’s professional editing software Final Cut Pro X (FCPX) right as I was playing around with Shareist and all hell broke loose (more on that in another post). Suddenly I was curating as much as I could as fast as I could to help others get to information quickly and in one place. That being said it was a great “real world” use case to “battle test” the platform. And all in all, it completely rocked! So just wanted to share this and invite you to have a look at my Shareist FCPX site and if you like what you see maybe request an invite as well. Also, you may want to consider if that better suits your needs. Here’s an example of my online video providers (OVPs) topic there to check out. If you enjoy curating like I do I don’t think that you’ll be disappointed by either of these great services.
